Say Hello to the Humuhumunukunukuapua'a (Yes, Really!)

If you grab a snorkel and dip your head beneath the turquoise waters of Hawaii, you are bound to see a kaleidoscope of incredible marine life. But there is one little fish that holds a very special title—and has an even more spectacular name.
Meet the Humuhumunukunukuapua'a.
Yes, that is a real word, and yes, it is the official State Fish of Hawaii! Also known as the Reef Triggerfish, this little guy is easily recognizable by its vibrant geometric patterns of blue, yellow, and black.
We know what you're thinking: How on earth do I say that? Don't worry, we've got you covered. Break it down into chunks, channel your inner islander, and give it a try:
HOO-moo-HOO-moo-NOO-koo-NOO-koo-AH-poo-AH-ah
Got it? Once you catch the rhythm, it rolls right off the tongue!
But what does this fabulous 21-letter name actually mean? In Hawaiian, it translates roughly to "triggerfish with a snout like a pig." It turns out, when this beautiful little fish is taken out of the water, it makes a tiny grunting noise just like a piglet.
