The Crown of the Tropics: Pineapple Myths Busted

We use it in our fluff desserts, we blend it into our smoothies, and we wear it on our favorite Aloha shirts—but how much do you really know about the pineapple? It's time to bust some myths about the undisputed king of tropical fruits!
Myth #1: Pineapples grow on trees.
False: If you picture pineapples hanging from tall, leafy branches like coconuts, you aren't alone—but it's totally false! Pineapples actually grow out of the ground. They sit right in the center of a spiky, leafy plant that looks a lot like a giant aloe vera.

Myth #2: A pineapple is just one big piece of fruit.
False: Prepare to have your mind blown. A pineapple is actually a cluster of dozens of individual little berries that have fused together around a central core! Every single one of those little diamond shapes on the outside (called an "eye") was once its own separate flower.
Myth #3: Pineapples grow slow
Truth: This fruit teaches us patience. From the moment a pineapple is planted, it can take anywhere from 18 to 24 months for a single plant to produce just one pineapple.
Next time you enjoy a slice, take a moment to appreciate the two years of sunshine it took to make it so sweet!
